Fall Bird Banding
As the trees light up with reds and golds, Ruthven Park becomes a quiet stopover for birds on their long journey south. Early in the morning, you might spot volunteers gently banding tiny warblers and sparrows, checking their feathers, and sending them safely on their way. It’s peaceful, a little bit magical, and a great way to feel connected to the rhythm of the season. If you visit, bring a warm jacket, a thermos of something hot, and a bit of patience—you never know what birds might show up next.

Brantford Kidney Walk 2025
Date: Sunday, September 21
Registration Time: 9:00 a.m.
Start Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Harmony Square
Route length: 1k/3k
This year's Kidney Walk is dedicated to Brenda Maillet. Brenda was a long-time supporter and driving force behind the Brantford Kidney Walk and the Brant County Chapter of The Kidney Foundation. Her infectious smile, caring spirit and commitment to helping others will be forever remembered.
Kidney Walks are a vital lifeline, empowering us to deliver real-time support, drive life-saving research, and advocate fiercely for those impacted by kidney disease. Our mission goes beyond survival; we’re committed to a future where everyone facing kidney disease can truly thrive.
We are committed to ensuring that all Canadians with chronic kidney disease have access to high-quality healthcare and essential support. By providing comprehensive education, we equip the public, patients, and healthcare professionals with the necessary tools to promote kidney health. We drive change through effective advocacy for impactful policies and by funding innovative research.
Every dollar raised fuels programs and services for those affected by kidney disease. We encourage all participants to fundraise, as each contribution supports lifesaving resources for about 1 in 10 Canadians, or 4 million people, who have kidney disease.
To show our gratitude, participants who raise $150 or more will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Raise an impressive $1,000 or more, and you'll be celebrated as a Kidney Walk Champion with an exclusive t-shirt.
For those extraordinary fundraisers who reach the remarkable milestone of $5,000 or more, you'll be honored as a member of the prestigious Kidney Walk Pinnacle Club.

Garden Keepers' Sessions
Become a Keeper of the Garden!
Join us in the garden for these regularly scheduled evenings of hands-on garden learning where children and their families participate in seasonal garden maintenance, including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting! These Garden Keepers’ Sessions provide ongoing education about plant care, soil health, and the importance of stewardship while ensuring the garden remains a thriving space for the community.
Our Garden Keepers’ Sessions invite children and their families to become keepers of the garden, tending to the space throughout the growing season while learning essential skills in gardening, sustainability, and ecosystem care.
What to Expect
Each session brings new discoveries; whether it’s building trellises for tomatoes, harvesting the first ripe tomato, spotting a monarch butterfly among the milkweed, or learning the art of seed saving. Guided by our garden educators and community partners, these sessions foster a sense of responsibility, patience, and wonder, helping children and families develop a lasting connection to nature.
Through Garden Keepers’ Sessions, participants don’t just care for the garden; they become part of its story, nurturing a space that will continue to bloom for future generations.
